Well, this is one of the stranger and potentially most exciting projects we've stumbled onto in recent memory. New band Blackroc is less of a "supergroup" than a constantly evolving "super-concept." Grungy blues rocking du0 The Black Keys are establishing a new identity for themselves as the central piece of a rotating rock/hip hop collective. The first single, available below, features Mos Def and Jim Jones dropping verses, but the forthcoming Blackroc album will also feature material from heavy hip hop luminaries like Raekwon, Ludacris, RZA, Q-Tip, Pharaohe Monche, and even the late, great Ol' Dirty Bastard.

While the project might seem suspect at first, a listen to the first single, Hoochie Coo, reveals that The Keys' signature rough-edged, scuzzy guitar licks actually provide a solid backing template for a skilled rapper to fill with his own message. The self-titled debut LP will drop on November 27th. Until then, check out Hoochie Coo and let us know what you think!
