History in the Building

One of the most influential hip hop DJs/producers of all time, the
legendary 45 King, will be tearing down Montreal’s own Blizzarts on December

45 King is the producer behind one of the most recognizable breaks ever, the 1987 classic “The 900 Number” which samples the infectious tenor sax solo from Marva Whitney’s “Unwind Yourself,” later used for Chad Jacskon’s “Hear the Drummer (Get Wicked)” and of course DJ Kool’s “Let me Clear my Throat.” You’ve heard it a million times but you’ve never really heard it right until it’s dropped by the original sampler of the break himself.  Further credits under his belt include Jay-Z’s “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem),” arguably Hov’s greatest record to date, the multi-platinum single “Stan” by Eminem, and Queen Latifah’s entire freshman album “All Hail the Queen” released on Tommy Boy. On top of further production and remix work for Gangstarr, Salt N Pepa, Maestro Fresh Wes, Madonna, and Eric B. & Rakim, his breakbeat series (The Lost Breakbeat, Breakapalooza, Breakamania, etc…) solidified him as the breakbeat king and an inspiration to countless producers.

Friday December 11th at Blizzart’s (3956A St. Laurent).
