SXSW Fun

It was my first time in Texas, and what a time it was. Not as many cowboy hats as I expected, but the best 4-day party I've ever been to. Highlight: Levis/Fader Fort, which is the best marketing campaign I've ever seen. Luckily for us, the campaign showcased some of the best artists out there right now and best of all...free booze.  Nas, Damian Marley, GWAR, Bone Thugz were among the surprise guests. Also Montreal was in the place with CFCF and Poirier lining the bands with amazing DJ sets.

The highlights for me were the group of artists that critics have been deeming 'chillwave.' The leader of that pack, Washed Out played an amazing live set with Small Black and smacked down the critics by acknowledging the dancing crowd who were all but chilled out.  Others highly reccomended in that set are Pictureplane (Listen: "Goth Star") and Tanlines (Listen: "Real Life").

On to the next, The Very Best, stole the show everytime with beautiful vocals and banging beats that led to the crowd spontaneously rushing the stage during "Warm Heart of Africa (ft. Ezra of Vampire Weekend)" [< video of it happening]. That only led to The Very Best inviting everyone to get on their school bus around the corner, heading towards their hilltop, gated ranch out of town that their record label had rented.  That basically sums up the madness of the week.

I didn't make it on to the bus for reasons obvious in the last photo in this post.

Next year is a must. My photos of the raucousness below.

Let’s go: Lunice, live from the RBMA in London.

We going all up in this London bidness for the Red Bull Music Academy!

But first, I want to give my biggest hollers and thanks to the Lookout fam and Orisue Clothing for swagging me up a hundred thousand trillion bazillion with their new Spring 2010 collection..!! Let's get it!

Now for a quick introduction:

The name's Lunice (real name & stage name because I'm bad at coming up with rad names haha) and I love rap music, breakdancing, graffiti and scratching. In other words, I love HIP HOP ;). Though I've especially been on the "Jerk" tip lately and lots of hyphy is never enough hyphy for a dude. So basically what's going to go down here is that I will be posting pictures, video and writting about random thoughts and events while I'm there at the RBMA! So here's the plan... Redbull drinks + Studio time = "I'M GOING IN!!!" - Dj Khaled

LONDON I SEE YOU! ... In the next 16 hours!

Oh and y'all can follow me on twitter as well.!

Cheers,
L

P.S.: This is going to be my anthem while I'm there.

Orisue Onslaught!

neworisue1

The Orisue Holiday Collection recently dropped and it is far and away their most ambitious set of releases yet. As per usual, the focus remains on the high quality denim, with releases ranging from slim to classic fits. This season, however, Orisue has started to develop new areas of expertise, crafting classic jackets, knit pieces, and khakis, all draped in a darkly rich color palette. These days, no winter drop would be complete a few dope flannel pieces, either. Click below for more pics of the line and to check out the Orisue skate team's recent tour rocking the threads.

One of the best parts of Orisue, besides the clothes, naturally, is the support they show the skate scene. Check out this tour vid of the Orisue Team through Northern California to see some dope skating and check out what's dropping for Spring and Summer. Ain't no shame in it.

Brixton Winter 09

brix

With each new round of drops, Brixton is quicky becoming one of the most dependably versatile brands available. Originally, Brixton specialized exclusively in quality men's headwear. Over the past few seasons, however, they've focused more on developing a complete range of men's and women's apparel. I love the traditional aesthetic behind the designs. Each piece is powerfully classical yet subtly contemporary. Click through to the site to really check out the new pieces.

Obama Fried Chicken

obama1-thumb

New Clipse song featuring my man Killa Cam.  Pharell did it right with this beat. In the video (down below) theyre standing in front of Obama Fried Chicken in Brooklyn.  The arab store owner renamed the shop after the election and since has been taking heat from some in the neighborhood for the racial connotation, but still applauded by others for making some damn good chicken...to the point where cam had to leave harlem to get some.  Song is great.

Here are a few backstage photos taken with 35mm film at the Spring/Summer 2010 Alexander Wang fashion show in New York from Stylesightings. Forget the legs, I'm eating up the shoes and the unrivaled knee-high socks with the cut outs.

Model Ieva K. shot by Dean Rodgers from The Imagist. Everything about this photograph breaks the rules and that's exactly why it's so striking. But really, can you imagine walking in those shoes? It makes me dizzy just thinking about it...

Congratulations Red Bull Music Academy 2010 Attendees

Thanks to all for submitting your applications! Happy to say that Montreal is on the map this year!!!  Below find the Canadians who will be heading to the Red Bull Music Academy in London, England in 2010.

The next edition of the Red Bull Music Academy will touch down in one of the world’s most sprawling musical metropolises: London. From February 7 to March 12, 2010, some of the most original and creative minds in music will come together to share ideas, work on tunes, and perform in the best vibe-filled venues around town.

If you don’t get in this year, it does not mean that you’re not the kind of person we’re looking for. Often the number of potential participants far outnumbers the amount we are able to invite. You should definitely apply again: next year, you might be just the person to create the right balance in the final selection of 60 people.

Keep an eye on redbullmusicacademy.com, www.facebook.com/RedBullMusicAcademy as well as twitter.com/rbma for the latest news as we count down to the main event. If you are interested in applying for the next edition of the Academy – hold tight for the next application phase in early 2011.

Thanks Nina for getting this post together.
