Corey Woods better known by the stage name Raekwon, is an American rapper and a member of the Wu-Tang Clan. He released his solo debut, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... in 1995, and has since recorded four solo albums, as well as work with Wu-Tang and an extensive amount of guest contributions with other hip hop artists. Raekwon is often cited as one of the pioneers of the Mafioso rap sub-genre. In 2007, The editors of About.com placed him on their list of the Top 50 MCs of Our Time (1987–2007). The Miami New Times described Raekwon's music as being "street epics" that are "straightforward yet linguistically rich universes not unlike a gangsta Illiad.

ARAABMUZIK (Dipset)

http://vimeo.com/20793057 (6-min documentary)
http://twitter.com/araabMUZIK

He may only be 22 years-old but Araabmuzik is already heading up a new breed of producers boldly reshaping the boundaries of hip-hop and its influences. Originally from Providence, Rhode Island, Abraham Orellana developed a rabid following through a series of online videos showcasing his impossibly nimble touch on an MPC drum machine. He was signed by DukeDaGod to Diplomat Records and flourished as the label’s “secret weapon”, crafting hits and hood classics alike for Cam’ron, Juelz Santana and Jim Jones, culminating with his role producing Dipset’s triumphant reunion song, “Salute.” His debut album Electronic Dream, an explosive take on the pristine textures of dance music, has been met with glowing reviews and his live performances are already a thing of developing legend. Beyond the insane MPC calisthenics, it’s his instinct for genre-shattering bombast that makes Araabmuzik one of the only producers alive with the ability to dominate a crowd by himself.

LUNICE

http://lunice.com/
http://twitter.com/lunice

Born and raised in Montreal, this b-boy turned producer is one of our local treasures gone global. Lunice’s infamous live shows toy with the entire concept of what performing electronic music can be. The term 'DJ set' doesn’t nearly do it justice; with his exuberantly charismatic stage persona, his shows become immersive experiences for everyone involved. Since collaborating with Diplo on a remix of Deerhunter's “Helicopter,” Lunice has been getting more involved with the Major Lazer producer’s Mad Decent label family, playing across the U.S. at their notorious annual Block Party, as well as a raucous show at MoMA’s P.S.1 Warm-Up party. His latest EP, titled One Hunned, just dropped on LuckyMe.

Fan Death - Veronica's Veil (Nautiluss From The Deep Mix)

The mysterious Nautiluss, formerly Grahmzilla of Thunderheist, drops a new intriguing remix of duo Fan Death. From the Deep, indeed. You can catch Nautiluss live alongside Prison Garde, Lunice, and Ango Tuesday March 8th at Le Belmont for RBMA Destination Tokyo.

Download: Jamie Woon – Night Air (Deadboy Remix)

Few tracks over the past year have inspired more re-imaginings than Jamie Woon's "Night Air," co-produced by Burial. Of the dozens of official and bootleg remixes that arose following the single's release, the premier versions are widely held to be a trio of Ramadanman's remix, Becoming Real's edit, and the following work by Deadboy:

RBMA Spotlight: Ango

Montreal beatsmith Ango shot out of the 2010 Red Bull Music Academy in London like a rocket launcher. After years spent playing the legendary MTL Turbo Crunk parties alongside Lunice and Megasoid, Ango has spent the past year linking up with Glasgow label LuckyMe and performing all over the world, including a set at Barcelona's famed Sonar Fest featuring tons of unreleased material. You can check out a recording of that seminal set, along with others from his time in London, from within the RBMA Radio archives

Ango's sound matured and developed remarkably during his time at the 2010 RBMA, adding a polish that was absent from his earlier proto-R&B incantations. All that energy and focus has been harnessed in his new, refreshingly manic, performance style, captured below:

You can catch Ango playing with Lunice, Prison Garde, and Nautiluss at the RBMA Destination Tokyo tour this March 8th at Le Belmont.

It's application time! Attendees will also have an exclusive opportunity to enter a remix contest, with submissions hosted on Exclaim.ca, and the winner taking home a $1K gift certificate to Moog Audio. No Academy day would be complete without a proper party, which starts at 10pm right after the workshop.

Application Info Session, 8PM
Showcase @ 10pm

PRISON GARDE

Prison Garde is the latest incarnation of electronic music monolith Vaughn Robert Squire. A man of many monikers and creative outlets, with a well celebrated history that spans multiple eras and genres of music (as Megasoid, Sixtoo,Villain Accelerate and S&N to name a few projects), Prison Garde spends his nights these days pumping out deep twerked warehouse music of all tempos.

NAUTILUSS

Formerly of Thunderheist, Nautiluss has refocused and reloaded his plan of attack, providing dark, diabolical tracks somewhere between house, techno, and evil space disco. The perfect soundtrack for a flight over international waters.

LUNICE

Lunice is just THAT dude. So cool, so easy. But at night he’s a monster making bedroom dance videos to Footcrab and Sex Intelligent (remix stoopid). It was just over a year ago that Lunice started bumping his own beats at the Turbo Crunk nights. To think that he’s since released a debut EP on LuckyMe, played two European tours, and attended the Red Bull Music Academy in London, cheeeez, dude is doing those big things already.

ANGO
Joining Montreal's community of influential DJs and Producers, this R&B beat maker has just begun to do his part to help rebuild the landscape of alternative dance music in North America. Ango's music is uniquely melodic and hopeful, bringing boogie-era synth and drum sounds into context with contemporary R&B bangers, electro and bass music.

Tickets are $8 and will be available online and at the following locations:

MOOG Audio - 3828 St-Laurent
Off The Hook - 1021 Ste Catherine Ouest
Atom Heart - 364, Rue Sherbrooke Est
