The evening begins with our friends from the Evening Standard nights at The Drake Hotel, who have graciously procured a prime trinity of classic dance music selectors, including residents MEMBERSONLY, and Montreal comrads CFCF, and Seb Diamond.
The main course is an American-sized serving of New York disco and house whipped up to a froth by the ordained apostles of seminal NYC label DFA Records. The vivid yet vulnerable charisma of Kim Ann Foxman (Hercules & Love Affair) sparks magnificently against the stoic restraint of disco maestro Prince Language, the evening all the while glistening and churning along with the support of prodigal label magnate Charles Damga (UNO) and Montreal’s own Hardest Working Man on Clark Street, Guilty. This evening flows from 9-3 A.M. and we recommend not missing a single second.

BABE RAINBOW & CFCF PRESENT: SCREW THE RIGHT THING
Two of Canada's up and coming electronic producers unite from the far ends of the Great White North in the name of two words: CHOP and SCREW. On October 1st at Il Motore, BABE RAINBOW (Warp Records, Vancouver) and CFCF (Paper Bag/Acephale/RVNG, Montreal) will slow things down to a glacial, sensual pace for the haziest party at Pop Montreal. Though they may not have much in common stylistically, the former of the dubby, dark warehouse glitch-hop, and the latter of the balearic, melancholic house and pop, these two knob-twiddlers will come together in tribute to a great forefather: DJ SCREW. Rap, r&b, pop, rock, you name it--nothing will escape the syrup slow sensation. 11:30 to 3 N' the Mornin.
FREE!

CFCF – “Continent” Review

Putting on CFCF’s debut album, Continent, I’m aurally transported to a decadent and deluded era when the DeLorean was still in production, Michael Jackson was still black, and about 75% of New Yorkers had a monthly coke habit expensive enough to pay for my entire 4-year college tuition. The Montreal DJ/ remix-er has created an electro album infused with a rhythmic spirit reminiscent of early 80’s disco and house music, while layering it with hazy motifs. The album opens stoically with “Raining Patterns”, a dreamy track layered with catchy synth lines, cascading piano, and a pumping dance beat that reminds me of early M83. The character of the first song resembles that of the rest of the album in that the sound washes over the listener, who can’t help but drift in and out of a trance-like state. My personal favorite off of the album is “Invitation to Love,” which embodies the sounds of neon lights at night, exuding atmospheric chords, luscious bass lines, and decadent handclaps. I recommend bumping this shit while prowling the city at night. While the songs may not necessarily be very radio friendly (7 of the 13 tracks clock in at over 6 minutes), the album, for me, as a whole, captures a pervading sentiment among youth that epically cheesy synths are not a fad of the past, but the way of the future. The album dropped October 27 on Paper Bag Records, so go out and get it now and don't forget to drop by Cloud9, the sideroom special at Tokyo Thursdays to peep this dude's live DJ steez...its radical.
Banana Split Sundae/ HEALTH after-party
Note on the night: Great Concert but bummer in the summer.
Although they wanted to party, Health had to jet canada quick after the show because the RCMP was after them for turning right on red on the island of montreal. Next time.
Hope you're ready for another bangin' Sundae at the Dog. This week's Banana Split is bringing the heat with DJ sets from the demented musical minds of HEALTH and CFCF

HEALTH have been getting mad love on blogs all across the world ever since Crystal Castles dropped one of the catchiest remixes in recent times of their song "Crimewave" and are only melting more faces on their sophmore album Get Color. Thankfully, HEALTH show no sign of slowing down and are adding fuel to dance-floors everywhere with stunning songs like "Die Slow" and "Before Tigers". The remixes take already danceable songs and bring them to new hip-shaking heights with poppy touches added by the likes of CFCF. HEALTH are coming to Blue Dog after their show on Sunday at La Sala Rossa to party and bullshit and will be deftly spinning bangers through the night.

If you aren't excited about this guy yet, then you may need to seriously reevaluate how you find new music. Discovered after winning the contest to craft the official remix for Crystal Castles' "Air Wars"," MTL native Mike Silver, AKA CFCF, has since been sought after for remixes by HEALTH, The Teenagers, The Presets, DATAROCK, and Genghis Tron. Since the release of a jaw-dropping, genre-busting remix of Cassie & Lil Wayne's "Official Girl," followed by a stellar solo EP Panesian Nights put out by Paper Bag Records, CFCF has been a consistent favorite of FADER mag, even being featured on their latest issue-accompanying podcast. Lookout is proud to bring CFCF, one or our own personal favorites, back to Blue Dog Banana Split Sundae for a victory lap!Read More ↓
