Action Bronson

Party Jam GROS Chilling:

Any artist who raps about the joys of duck prosciutto and Tunisian olives is bound to stick out from the continuous stream of Weezy and Cudi impersonators that pepper today's hip-hop landscape, then again, Action Bronson is nothing if not unique. The son of Albanian and Jewish parents he trained as a chef at the Art Institute of New York City’s culinary program, but after seven years sweating in kitchens around NYC he switched recipes for rhymes and put out a rapturously received LP titled "Dr. Lecter" earlier this year. His quick and witty flow recalls the vivid lyricism of Ghostface Killah, but Action Bronson's exuberance is all his own. With a larger than life personality and funky mix of chopped up breakbeats, soul samples and old-school 'boom-bap' it's no surprise Bronson's music has given him a dedicated live following. Hip-hop head or foodie, this is not one to miss.

LOOKOUT & MUSIC IS MY SANCTUARY present/presentent:
EL-B (Ghost Records, UK)

EL-B is without question one of the most influential producers in the UK Garage / 2-step genre. He is widely recognized as one of the few pioneers of darker sounds, which set the foundation for the birth of dubstep. Ask most younger producers in the bass game and they will mention El-B as a major influence. Tempa Records, dubstep's legendary label, recognized his huge contribution to the dubstep movement with a compilation dedicated entirely to his work with "The Roots of El-B" in 2009.

In little over 10 years of production El-B has done crucial work that can be hold tight in sets of more contemporary releases. Starting with his work as half of Groove Chronicals, he released timeless classics like "Stone Cold", "1999", "Black Puppet". Then in the early 2000's he also released some absolute 4/4 destroyers as El-TUFF (with Tuff Jam's Karl Brown) all while pushing his label called Ghost Recordings and his GHOST duo with J Da Flex.

EL-B is a pioneer and an absolute original rude bwoy of that bass ting!

LOOKOUT is a promoter of good music and fun parties in Montreal (est. 2004). Our website & newsletter feature exclusive mixtapes, artist interviews, free music, events, photos, and handpicked culture. After having put on several big ticket shows this year such as Dam-Funk, YACHT, and helping curate club nights and concerts in and out-of-town, we're proud to announce the thrilling lineup for our Pop Montreal showcase this year, at Club Lambi on Thursday, September 30th.

We're pleased to say Hudson Mohawke, coasting off his debut LP "Butter" on Warp, will be returning to the city once more to take everyone on what can only be described as a falcon ride through an airbrushed fantasy land of heady beats, sparkly sunshine and glossy synthesizers.

New label mate Machinedrum will be in the house as well, riding off his stellar new releases on LuckyMe and on Hotflush as his new garage/future dubstep project Sepalcure. With a combination of the songwriting skills of Timbaland, the huge club sounds of Daft Punk and the crafty experimentation of Aphex Twin, Machinedrum will take us all on quite the musical ride.

Along for the journey will be the dancing, beatboxing, beatmaking and recent RBMA graduate Lunice, playing a tag-team set with fellow Montreal-based LuckyMe signee Hovatron, who has been bringing hybrid warehouse techno and new-school crunk to clubs worldwide.

Furthermore, Ango's "finely tuned, bass heavy set that is getting bodies jerking at all manner of angles" collides with Pop Montreal for the first time.

Live in every sense of the word, this is not one to be missed.

Come hang with the LuckyMe set, and LOOKOUT.

Dam-Funk “Mirrors”

Here's the video for Dam-Funk's "Mirrors" off of his LP Toeachizown on Stones Throw. It features trippy visuals and Dam Funk's fresh perm. Don't forget to check out Dam-Funk on March 5 at Club Lambi. As always, "keep it gansta".
