If you haven't heard of Fucked Up, you must be sleeping. The Toronto hardcore group prevailed over Metric, Chad VanGaalen, and Great Lake Swimmers to come away with the $20,000 prize, which I'm sure will go a far in the acquisition of distortion pedals and alcohol. Previous recipients of the prize include Caribou and Final Fantasy. So, go support your contemporary Canadian counterparts and buy their new album The Chemistry of Common Life (Matador Records).
