Meet Peter Ricq and Robbie Slade, otherwise known as Vancouver’s electro-folk outfit, Humans. When Peter and Robbie met 2 years ago, it was not an obvious musical union. Robbie came from a Roots, Reggae background and favoured belting out folksy ballads, while Peter spoke in bpm and got his musical start djing at Montreal underground parties at the age of 19. After meeting at an art show in Vancouver, the two were compelled to work together and five months later, their first recording was born.
In the summer of 2009, the duo was inspired to try their hand at video making and chose “Bike Home” to bring to life. Robbie conceptualized the idea and the video was produced, written and directed by Peter. It was shot during a 6 hour party in action, and puppets were brought in to play Robbie and Peter. The video was an instant sensation and went to #5 on Hypem Machine. The video caught the attention of both tastemakers and bloggers, and soon after Humans were showing up in the media and getting mail orders for their EP from as far away as Australia!
Once the buzz set in, the invitations to play shows picked up and in 2010, the Humans had the opportunity to share the stage with such acts as Junior Boys, LA Riots, Broken Social Scene, Crystal Method, Clipse and K’naan. They also performed at two of BC’s largest summer festivals [Shambhala, Big Time Out] and have dates in both the Olio and Rifflandia Festivals later in September.
Avec Mes Mecs is the first official release for Humans and features re-workings of their original EP, including the track “Bike Home”.
