DÂM-FUNK
& MASTER BLAZTER (FULL BAND LIVE!)
http://www.stonesthrow.com
As any true fan of funk, G-funk and all its multitudes of variations knows, only an artist with the audacity to appoint themselves “Los Angeles’ Ambassador of Boogie Funk, is truly qualified to hold such a title in the first place. Since the 2009 release of his much-celebrated debut opus “Toeachizown” on legendary L.A. imprint Stones Throw Records, Dâm-Funk has had the right to call himself anything he damn well pleases. Since then he’s hit the road hard with backing band Master Blazter, handled production for Steve Arrington’s much-anticipated return album, and is just now releasing a new tour EP titled, "InnaFocusedDaze."
In concert, Dâm-Funk’s inimitable southern Californian take on the conventions of soulful funk and electronic music comes off exactly as it was intended to; a delirious, irresistibly dishevelled mess of warm analog synths and ice-cold basslines held together through the assured stage presence of what may be the most charismatic man working in show business.

KINGDOM
http://kkingdomm.com/
http://www.xlr8r.com/podca
With major releases on Night Slugs and Fool’s Gold, as well as his own recently founded Fade To Mind label, Kingdom has been on a tear as of late. This New York/LA based producer experiments with a wide range of musical styles, mixing house and R&B influences with a darker collage of bass-heavy rhythms to create a sound that some have qualified as “a Brooklyn take on UK Garage.” Beyond his own releases, a steady stream of remixes for artists as divergent as Sleigh Bells, NGUZUNGUZU, and Montreal’s own Jacques Greene have cemented his status as one of the most sought-after, dependable, and inventive artists pushing the boundaries of dance music today.

NGUZUNGUZU
http://www.myspace.com/ngu
http://www.facebook.com/pa
The primary influences of Los Angeles-by-way-of-Chicago duo NGUZUNGUZU are as hard to pin down as their name is to phonetically parse out (the fist ‘N’ is silent). Daniel Pineda and Asma Marroof together form one of those rare musical partnerships whose work is truly international in scope and earnest in approach, rather than gimmick-driven or exploitative. Beyond a shared adoration of Chicago institutions like juke, footwork, and house music, the duo’s work as NGUZUNGUZU blends in the intricately overlapping areas of cumbia and reggaeton. The result is a stunningly organic form of dance music: driven by darkly insistent layers of bass yet filled in with an eclectic richness of detail that few producers can manage. Their new EP ''Timesup'' is the initial release from Kingdom's new Fade to Mind label.

KID SISTER
Known as Kanye West's Chicago protegé, Kid Sister started MC'ing at electro-duo Flosstradamus' infamous monthly parties back in 2005. Her endlessly quotable lines, flamboyantly party-driven charisma, and pioneering electro-rap sound soon gained her a national profile and spawned legions of imitators. She was signed by Montreal native A-Trak to his Fool’s Gold label and together they released her first single, "Pro Nails," featuring a cameo from Kanye himself. Her first album Ultraviolet featured work from such acclaimed producers as XXXChange, Sinden, and Rusko. The last few years have seen Kid Sister hitting the road relentlessly and perfecting her international blend of hip hop credibility and flamboyant party-rocking.

Aloe Blacc @ Le Belmont
Aloe Blacc (Stones Throw)
To the masses, Aloe Blacc is best-known as the singer of the opening theme song for HBO's TV series "How to Make It in America." In part thanks to that, "I Need a Dollar" is considered the unofficial anthem for twenty-somethings on the grind. Having spent about sixteen years in the business, Aloe Blacc certainly knows something about the hustle. Blacc's years as an emcee has expanded into creating conscious music that spans the sounds of rap, soul, hip hop, jazz, and R&B, culminating in his most recent soul album, Good Things. In many ways, his stirring music is reminiscent of sounds from the sixties, but the lyrics are decidedly current, and tinged with a political slant. A graduate from the University of Southern California, Blacc and his distinct sound are quick to be described by music journalists and bloggers alike as smart, but his music is more than that, as Blacc straddles the worlds of art and life. Check out LOOKOUT's interview with Aloe Blacc and don't miss him live with his band The Grand Scheme on June 4th at Le Belmont.
KINGDOM, GUILTY + DJ BUS

KINGDOM
(Fools Gold / Night Slugs / Acéphale, NYC)
http://kkingdomm.com/ | http://myspace.com/kkingdomm
Kingdom returns for his second appearance in Montreal, after his intimate debut in December 2009. Kingdom is a Brooklyn-based producer and DJ whose signature sets and productions have been gathering a rabid following since he released his first mixtape in 2006. Since then, DJs from Diplo to BBC’s Annie Mac have given his tracks spins, and with his recent signing to Fools Gold Records and the video for his debut single “Mind Reader” airing on MTV2, there’s no doubt that Kingdom is the young American producer to watch. Kingdom may play everything from kuduro to juke, but R&B is his first love, and it shows in his bass-heavy remixes and original tracks, often featuring R&B vocal samples on top of his trademark production style—what some have called “a Brooklyn take on the UK garage sound.” This vanguard of tropical blends, Latin stylings and bass-heavy, dance-savvy sounds from around the world is catching the ear of more than a few tastemakers.
On the “That Mystic” EP, Kingdom delivers five tracks that reference many of the aforementioned genres, but also posses a completely individual, other-worldly gleam. It’s the sound of digital chimes, operating system environments, skipping CDs, midi ringtones – the tracks are haunted by the digital realm. The EP moves from the Bubblin’/Club of the title track, to the percussive, broken “Bust Broke”, through to the medieval halfstepper “Fogs”, the all-out grimey “Pang” and is closed by the sublime refracted R&B of “Seven Chirp”. The tracks are as abstract and challenging as they are honed and club-ready.
Kingdom has received positive press and praise from magazines such as The Fader and XLR8R, to trendsetting sites such as Pitchfork and Discobelle, but his eclectic, forward-thinking style blows right past the buzz. Bok Bok of the London-based, widely acclaimed Night Slugs collective attested: “The genres Kingdom dips into range across the board, but his mixes create within themselves a new logic, a gutter house aesthetic that just makes sense.”

MIDNIGHT JUGGERNAUTS + BIKINI

MIDNIGHT JUGGERNAUTS
http://myspace.com/midnightjuggernauts
Midnight Juggernauts are an alternative dance/synth pop band which formed in Melbourne, Australia in 2004, They consist of Vincent Vendetta (vocals, keyboards), Andy Juggernaut, (bass, vocals) and Daniel Stricker (drums). They have been described by the American magazine “Rolling Stone” as “David Bowie if his Berlin Trilogy was a collaboration with Kraftwerk and Faust”. So far, the band have released two albums “Dystopia” (2008) and “The Crystal Axis” (2010)
They play dirty-organ-rock, stadium-disco-metal and sci-fi rollerskating jams. Beyond the sound and the fury, they take their listeners through landscapes haunted by Giorgio Moroder, ELO, and John Carpenter before entering the dark future world of Bronx Warriors 2020, as captured by a ’70s Italian film crew.
They were personally invited by French act Justice to tour North America with them in late 2007 leaving their mark at the CMJ music festival , later playing with !!!, Holy Fuck, Crystal Castles, Klaxons and label mate Surkin across the UK and Europe. Their debut album, Dystopia, was released in Australia in late 2007 on the band’s own label Siberia Records, with an international release with additional material to follow in April and May of 2008.
BIKINI
http://myspace.com/bikinii
BIKINI is Nigel Diamond and Olivier Olivier. Their music is like Salinger on MDMA. Diamond is originally from Miami and Olivier was classically trained at the Royal Conservatory.
Olivier Olivier is the son of the late Indian poet Fateh Bains and moved to Canada where he attended Glen-Lyon Norfolk School, a school chosen for its musical program affiliated with the Royal Conservatory of Music. It was here Olivier met Nigel Diamond, who was sent down after he was expelled from his previous school.
It wasnʼt until after Glen-Lyon Norfolk that the two began to make music together. Olivier composes all the melodies in the fall of each year, drawing his inspiration from the poetry he writes during the summer. He records vocals, exports all his drafts without titles or form to Diamond. Diamond spends the following spring arranging Olivier's melodies, rhythm sequences and vocal treatments – adding his own lines. The result is a finished record. Nothing is sent back to Olivier. The songs are sent from Diamond to be mastered and released

"Somewhere at the interstellar crossroads of Sun Ra, DJ Spooky, Strata East, and Lee “Scratch” Perry lies the incomparable musical mind of L.A. native Ras G (né Gregory Shorter, Jr.). Though he often affixes the group moniker “The Alkebulan (or Afrikan) Space Program” to his name, Ras G (a composite of his first initial and a testament to his belief in Rastafari) is the sole captain and crew of this spacecraft.
