With major releases on Night Slugs and Fool’s Gold, as well as his own recently founded Fade To Mind label, Kingdom has been on a tear as of late. This New York/LA based producer experiments with a wide range of musical styles, mixing house and R&B influences with a darker collage of bass-heavy rhythms to create a sound that some have qualified as “a Brooklyn take on UK Garage.” Beyond his own releases, a steady stream of remixes for artists as divergent as Sleigh Bells, NGUZUNGUZU, and Montreal’s own Jacques Greene have cemented his status as one of the most sought-after, dependable, and inventive artists pushing the boundaries of dance music today.

The primary influences of Los Angeles-by-way-of-Chicago duo NGUZUNGUZU are as hard to pin down as their name is to phonetically parse out (the fist ‘N’ is silent). Daniel Pineda and Asma Marroof together form one of those rare musical partnerships whose work is truly international in scope and earnest in approach, rather than gimmick-driven or exploitative. Beyond a shared adoration of Chicago institutions like juke, footwork, and house music, the duo’s work as NGUZUNGUZU blends in the intricately overlapping areas of cumbia and reggaeton. The result is a stunningly organic form of dance music: driven by darkly insistent layers of bass yet filled in with an eclectic richness of detail that few producers can manage. Their new EP ''Timesup'' is the initial release from Kingdom's new Fade to Mind label.

Jacques Greene - Tell Me (Kingdom Edit)
Kingdom remixes his Night Slugs labelmate, Montreal's Jacques Greene. In the hands of Kingdom "Tell Me," originally the soft, understated closer to Jacques Greene's debut LuckyMe LP The Look, becomes a remarkable re-imagining - maintaing its subtle draw while amplifying the track's layered, twisting, and pulsing dynamics. Truly amazing work.
See Kingdom drop this tune live at the Night Slugs Showcase with Bok Bok and Girl Unit March 25th at SAT.

KINGDOM
(Fools Gold / Night Slugs / Acéphale, NYC)
http://kkingdomm.com/ | http://myspace.com/kkingdomm
Kingdom returns for his second appearance in Montreal, after his intimate debut in December 2009. Kingdom is a Brooklyn-based producer and DJ whose signature sets and productions have been gathering a rabid following since he released his first mixtape in 2006. Since then, DJs from Diplo to BBC’s Annie Mac have given his tracks spins, and with his recent signing to Fools Gold Records and the video for his debut single “Mind Reader” airing on MTV2, there’s no doubt that Kingdom is the young American producer to watch. Kingdom may play everything from kuduro to juke, but R&B is his first love, and it shows in his bass-heavy remixes and original tracks, often featuring R&B vocal samples on top of his trademark production style—what some have called “a Brooklyn take on the UK garage sound.” This vanguard of tropical blends, Latin stylings and bass-heavy, dance-savvy sounds from around the world is catching the ear of more than a few tastemakers.
On the “That Mystic” EP, Kingdom delivers five tracks that reference many of the aforementioned genres, but also posses a completely individual, other-worldly gleam. It’s the sound of digital chimes, operating system environments, skipping CDs, midi ringtones – the tracks are haunted by the digital realm. The EP moves from the Bubblin’/Club of the title track, to the percussive, broken “Bust Broke”, through to the medieval halfstepper “Fogs”, the all-out grimey “Pang” and is closed by the sublime refracted R&B of “Seven Chirp”. The tracks are as abstract and challenging as they are honed and club-ready.
Kingdom has received positive press and praise from magazines such as The Fader and XLR8R, to trendsetting sites such as Pitchfork and Discobelle, but his eclectic, forward-thinking style blows right past the buzz. Bok Bok of the London-based, widely acclaimed Night Slugs collective attested: “The genres Kingdom dips into range across the board, but his mixes create within themselves a new logic, a gutter house aesthetic that just makes sense.”
