EL-B is without question one of the most influential producers in the UK Garage / 2-step genre. He is widely recognized as one of the few pioneers of darker sounds, which set the foundation for the birth of dubstep. Ask most younger producers in the bass game and they will mention El-B as a major influence. Tempa Records, dubstep's legendary label, recognized his huge contribution to the dubstep movement with a compilation dedicated entirely to his work with "The Roots of El-B" in 2009.

In little over 10 years of production El-B has done crucial work that can be hold tight in sets of more contemporary releases. Starting with his work as half of Groove Chronicals, he released timeless classics like "Stone Cold", "1999", "Black Puppet". Then in the early 2000's he also released some absolute 4/4 destroyers as El-TUFF (with Tuff Jam's Karl Brown) all while pushing his label called Ghost Recordings and his GHOST duo with J Da Flex.

EL-B is a pioneer and an absolute original rude bwoy of that bass ting!

http://on.fb.me/lUltoN

The heat in the streetz brought by Dipset's reunion can largely be attributed to beats made by Dipset super-producer Araab Muzik. Since the Dominican/Guatemalan producer met Dipset's chief of A&R, Duke Da God in 2006, he has been racking up hood classics, lacing The Dips with “We All Up in Here,” “Ric Flair,” “Pop Off,” and “I Used Get It In Ohio.” None of the songs the Rhode Island native has produced means more to New York than “Salute,” which features Cam’ron, Jim Jones, and Juelz Santana together again.

Production, yes. DIPSET. Even more insane is how he murders the MPC live. Araab uniquely samples sounds from trance, metal, opera, & classical genres, forming an energy that can't be captured by the countless YouTube videos showcasing his "finger-banging" ability.

Montreal's proudest young son is another super-producer who's YouTube legacy ain't nothing to f-with. Lunice has been destined for the main stage since the early days of Turbo Crunk, Montreal's premier bass night. After collaborating with Diplo, Lunice released the 'Stacker Upper EP' on Scottish label LuckyMe, turning heads in North American, Europe, and beyond. This just in: Lunice just announced a new EP forthcoming on the label. Yes!

Igloofest 2011 Preview

A common rebuttal by those fatigued and jealous of Montrealer's constant evangelizing on the vibrancy and community of their home is the assertion that the island goes dead during the brutal winter months. If that's truly how the rest of the world sees the city, consider Igloofest Montreal's extended middle finger, an outdoors electronic music fest that shows a joie de vivre in subzero temperatures most cities couldn't manage in perfect conditions. With too many acts to count packed into the fest's three weekends, here's our guide to what's worth seeing.

Week 1

Thursday, Jan. 13:

Start the fest off easy and pace it right by checking out Rilly Guilty at the Virgin Mobile Igloo at 8.

Saturday, Jan. 15:

Saturday night definitely has the heaviest concentration of Montreal's own sons and daughters and it's probably the night we're most excited about. For a constant stream of Montreal's best artists, start the night at the Main Stage to catch the Night Trackin DJs' 6:30 set, then head over to the Igloo for SHAYdakiss & A-Rock's set at 8, before sprinting back to the Main Stage at 9 for Lunice's epic swagfest.

Egyptrixx

Week 2

Thursday, Jan. 20:

The smart move is to sharpen your elbows and mob the Main Stage for all the night's best shows. Kid Sister, Terror Danjah, and Eskmo will definitely be worth staking out some valuable territory.

Friday, Jan. 21:

One of Igloofest's absolute-can't-miss-shows is Toronto native and Night Slugs warrior Egyptrixx. Do whatever you can to be front and center at his 8:00 Main Stage set.

Saturday, Jan. 22:

The shows at Igloofest don't run too late, but MTL native Hatchmatik's 10:00 Igloo set ought to capture the late night loft aesthetic to a T.

Ikonika

Week 3

Thursday, Jan. 27:

The safe bet for a great show is to stake out the Main Stage all night for Jordan Dare and the legend Carl Craig. Those more daring, or perhaps desperate for a change of scenery, might take a chance on venturing to Robyn's 10:00 show at Metropolis. Either way, there are no losers at Igloofest.

Friday, Jan. 28:

Let it never be said that fest isn't going out swinging. Once again, stake out the Main Stage all night for climactic sets by Ikonika and MTL's natural born riddim killer, Poirier. Miss any part of the night at your own peril.

ALTERED NATIVES – (London UK, EYE4EYE, 3024)

North American debut!

Starting over 10 years ago in North London, constructing foundation garage and 2-step beats, Danny “Native” has been grinding ever since, showing up with hits across the sub-genres as they change. With huge release's on landmark labels Hyperdub and 3024, pioneering his own label EYE4EYE, and producing 2 albums in the past year (with another still to come!) A.N. is more than over-due.

Altered Natives is a landmark UK producer. His sound embodies the essence of what we now generalize as “UK”. Oh yeah, he’s also a rude-boy DJ!

Montreal’s own ghetto supastah, Sharivari a.k.a. Bowly has been on the tip of everyone’s tongue in 2010. Being charted by massif artist ModeSelektor, interviewed with Vice Magazine UK, rated by FACT Magazine as one the top three performances at this year’s Mutek Festival, and releasing his first 12 inch on Berkane Sol, make Sharivari the definition of up and coming.

SKINNY BONES – (Mtl, E.S.L.)

Exile’s early exposure to hip hop grew into the desire to create the music he loved himself. At the age of 18, Exile met up with rapper, Aloe Blacc, 16 years old at the time. With a one-button sampler and a four-track they formed Emanon and started making their own albums. Exile, then met 19 year old rapper Blu and together started work on his solo effort Dirty Science, featuring Slum Village, MED and Ghostface Killa. Together they also made the critically acclaimed classic, Blu and Exile -Below The Heavens. After producing tracks for artists such as Mobb Deep, Jurassic 5, Akon and Snoop Dogg; he continues to excel in the art of creating music with his first instrumental album entitled Radio. Radio immediately made an impact, and now we bring you AM/FM.

RAS G ( Brainfeeder, LA ) October 22nd at Le Belmont

Ras G is a member of the Brainfeeder crew out of Los Angeles, part of the family consisting of heavy weights such as Flying Lotus, Samiyam, Gas Lamp Killer, Tokimonsta, Daedelus, Lorn, and on and on. You best expect some heavy heavy heavy.Read More ↓

"Somewhere at the interstellar crossroads of Sun Ra, DJ Spooky, Strata East, and Lee “Scratch” Perry lies the incomparable musical mind of L.A. native Ras G (né Gregory Shorter, Jr.). Though he often affixes the group moniker “The Alkebulan (or Afrikan) Space Program” to his name, Ras G (a composite of his first initial and a testament to his belief in Rastafari) is the sole captain and crew of this spacecraft. Along with a 21st-century moxie, his collective influences make up what he describes as ghetto sci-fi—an extraterrestrial soundwave transmission of dub, white noise, glitch, off-kilter boom-bap, and sound bites."
