The evening begins with our friends from the Evening Standard nights at The Drake Hotel, who have graciously procured a prime trinity of classic dance music selectors, including residents MEMBERSONLY, and Montreal comrads CFCF, and Seb Diamond.
The main course is an American-sized serving of New York disco and house whipped up to a froth by the ordained apostles of seminal NYC label DFA Records. The vivid yet vulnerable charisma of Kim Ann Foxman (Hercules & Love Affair) sparks magnificently against the stoic restraint of disco maestro Prince Language, the evening all the while glistening and churning along with the support of prodigal label magnate Charles Damga (UNO) and Montreal’s own Hardest Working Man on Clark Street, Guilty. This evening flows from 9-3 A.M. and we recommend not missing a single second.

MACHINEDRUM + CHRISSY MURDERBOT

Machinedrum
Twitter - Myspace -Youtube - Soundcloud - Blog
Machinedrum has collected new faces, aliases, and styles on a pace with most KGB agents. Throughout his entire career, Machinedrum, né Travis Stewart and AKA too many other pseudonyms to count, has jumped from subgenre to subgenre whenever it suited him, systematically dismantling the barriers between each and pooling together the remaining elements to create his own distinct blend of production styling. Though his earlier work veered between either dusty or glitchy breakbeats and a heavier left-field club approach, the new album Room(s) appears to have been inspired from his work as part of the duo Sepalcure, his side project with Praveen Sharma (AKA Braille). Like Sepalcure’s Love Pressure EP, Room(s) deals in starkly churning bass warmed and consumed by swarms of disembodied pathos. Machinedrum’ past stops in Montreal’s have displayed a special resonance with the city’s electronic scene (perhaps because of his ties to LuckyMe). Coming off the most seminal and productive stretch of his career, this show looks to be particularly meaningful

Chrissy Murderbot
Though the “novelty” of merging miscellaneous micro-genres of dance music may have lost a touch of luster in recent times, Chicago-based DJ and producer Chrissy Murderbot’s absurd enthusiasm keeps his scene-melding techniques innovative and inviting. His recently released 3rd album, Women’s Studies, uses the beloved Chicago institutions of house, footwork, and juke as percussive structures to support accented forays into garage, dancehall, jungle, and rave. Chrissy Murderbot’s energy is infectious; in addition to handling remixes for acts like Delorean, Lemonade, and Warrior Queen, he spends his time on the road for an endless stream of shows and events, providing a pan-global middle ground between established legends and new jacks alike.

KINGDOM
http://kkingdomm.com/
http://www.xlr8r.com/podca
With major releases on Night Slugs and Fool’s Gold, as well as his own recently founded Fade To Mind label, Kingdom has been on a tear as of late. This New York/LA based producer experiments with a wide range of musical styles, mixing house and R&B influences with a darker collage of bass-heavy rhythms to create a sound that some have qualified as “a Brooklyn take on UK Garage.” Beyond his own releases, a steady stream of remixes for artists as divergent as Sleigh Bells, NGUZUNGUZU, and Montreal’s own Jacques Greene have cemented his status as one of the most sought-after, dependable, and inventive artists pushing the boundaries of dance music today.

NGUZUNGUZU
http://www.myspace.com/ngu
http://www.facebook.com/pa
The primary influences of Los Angeles-by-way-of-Chicago duo NGUZUNGUZU are as hard to pin down as their name is to phonetically parse out (the fist ‘N’ is silent). Daniel Pineda and Asma Marroof together form one of those rare musical partnerships whose work is truly international in scope and earnest in approach, rather than gimmick-driven or exploitative. Beyond a shared adoration of Chicago institutions like juke, footwork, and house music, the duo’s work as NGUZUNGUZU blends in the intricately overlapping areas of cumbia and reggaeton. The result is a stunningly organic form of dance music: driven by darkly insistent layers of bass yet filled in with an eclectic richness of detail that few producers can manage. Their new EP ''Timesup'' is the initial release from Kingdom's new Fade to Mind label.

Dorian Concept + Guests at CFC
Thursday, April 7th
@ CFC | 6388 St-Hubert
DORIAN CONCEPT (Kindred Spirits, Austria)
http://www.myspace.com/dorianconcept
Dorian Concept is a Vienna based composer and musician, a child piano prodigy who went onto study music composition in Salzburg. He is currently one of the most exciting artists working in electronic music; his fusion of jazz, electronics and club music is as exciting as it is unique.
Dorian, aka Oliver Johnson, has released a string of extraordinary singles and EPs on Affine Records, Ninja Tune and Kindred Sprits, most notably the 'Trilingual Dance Sexperience' release in 2009, and is somewhat of a YouTube star (his online tweaks get over 200000 hits). He was asked by Flying Lotus to play at his Brainfeeder Event in London in 2009 and joined his band on keyboards for his latest shows. Next to touring through Europe, Asia and Australia, he has gotten support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs, Benji B and many more.

Igloofest 2011 Preview
A common rebuttal by those fatigued and jealous of Montrealer's constant evangelizing on the vibrancy and community of their home is the assertion that the island goes dead during the brutal winter months. If that's truly how the rest of the world sees the city, consider Igloofest Montreal's extended middle finger, an outdoors electronic music fest that shows a joie de vivre in subzero temperatures most cities couldn't manage in perfect conditions. With too many acts to count packed into the fest's three weekends, here's our guide to what's worth seeing.
Week 1
Thursday, Jan. 13:
Start the fest off easy and pace it right by checking out Rilly Guilty at the Virgin Mobile Igloo at 8.
Saturday, Jan. 15:
Saturday night definitely has the heaviest concentration of Montreal's own sons and daughters and it's probably the night we're most excited about. For a constant stream of Montreal's best artists, start the night at the Main Stage to catch the Night Trackin DJs' 6:30 set, then head over to the Igloo for SHAYdakiss & A-Rock's set at 8, before sprinting back to the Main Stage at 9 for Lunice's epic swagfest.
Week 2
Thursday, Jan. 20:
The smart move is to sharpen your elbows and mob the Main Stage for all the night's best shows. Kid Sister, Terror Danjah, and Eskmo will definitely be worth staking out some valuable territory.
Friday, Jan. 21:
One of Igloofest's absolute-can't-miss-shows is Toronto native and Night Slugs warrior Egyptrixx. Do whatever you can to be front and center at his 8:00 Main Stage set.
Saturday, Jan. 22:
The shows at Igloofest don't run too late, but MTL native Hatchmatik's 10:00 Igloo set ought to capture the late night loft aesthetic to a T.
Week 3
Thursday, Jan. 27:
The safe bet for a great show is to stake out the Main Stage all night for Jordan Dare and the legend Carl Craig. Those more daring, or perhaps desperate for a change of scenery, might take a chance on venturing to Robyn's 10:00 show at Metropolis. Either way, there are no losers at Igloofest.
Friday, Jan. 28:
Let it never be said that fest isn't going out swinging. Once again, stake out the Main Stage all night for climactic sets by Ikonika and MTL's natural born riddim killer, Poirier. Miss any part of the night at your own peril.

LUNICE / HOVATRON / SEB D TOKYO THURSDAYS

The biggest weekly party on St Laurent is kicking off 2011 with #BANGURZ. A truly all-star cast of Montreal's incredible producers is poised to show you what the future is all about.
Lunice is is poised to bring his infectious hybrid of hyphy/turbo-crunk/jerk/boom-bap to a much, much wider audience. Between an upcoming tour with fellow MTLien Jacques Greene, a collaboration with Diplo, and the imminent release of his "Stacker Upper" EP on LuckyMe, Lunice is keeping himself busy.
[MP3] Lunice - Pretty Boy Mixxx (LOOKOUT Mix #5)
A star to watch in the lazer bass galaxy. As half of the Mofomatronix DJ outfit, Montreal’s Philippe Aubin-Dionne was a fixture behind the decks at early Turbo Crunk parties, alongside Megasoid. As Hovatron, he went solo and evolved from DJ to producer/musician, fusing epic synths with beats to bomb the dancefloor. After a pair of mixtapes and a digital EP, Hovatron made his way to wax this year on his debut single “Gold Star Radiation,” backed by “Let's Get Wet.”

LOOKOUT is a promoter of good music and fun parties in Montreal (est. 2004). Our website & newsletter feature exclusive mixtapes, artist interviews, free music, events, photos, and handpicked culture. After having put on several big ticket shows this year such as Dam-Funk, YACHT, and helping curate club nights and concerts in and out-of-town, we're proud to announce the thrilling lineup for our Pop Montreal showcase this year, at Club Lambi on Thursday, September 30th.
We're pleased to say Hudson Mohawke, coasting off his debut LP "Butter" on Warp, will be returning to the city once more to take everyone on what can only be described as a falcon ride through an airbrushed fantasy land of heady beats, sparkly sunshine and glossy synthesizers.
New label mate Machinedrum will be in the house as well, riding off his stellar new releases on LuckyMe and on Hotflush as his new garage/future dubstep project Sepalcure. With a combination of the songwriting skills of Timbaland, the huge club sounds of Daft Punk and the crafty experimentation of Aphex Twin, Machinedrum will take us all on quite the musical ride.
Along for the journey will be the dancing, beatboxing, beatmaking and recent RBMA graduate Lunice, playing a tag-team set with fellow Montreal-based LuckyMe signee Hovatron, who has been bringing hybrid warehouse techno and new-school crunk to clubs worldwide.
Furthermore, Ango's "finely tuned, bass heavy set that is getting bodies jerking at all manner of angles" collides with Pop Montreal for the first time.
Live in every sense of the word, this is not one to be missed.
Come hang with the LuckyMe set, and LOOKOUT.

New Hovatron Mixtape
One of Montreal's finest and a founding member of Nighttrackin', Hovatron just dropped a mixtape full of his own originals and reworkings over at Lowriders Collective. The mix is full of unreleased gems and represents the evolution of one of MTL's brightest young minds from his days as a Turbo Crunk co-conspirator to his more recent, relentlessy eclectic production style.
Hovatron - Lowriders Collective Mixtape
Shouts go out to Lowrider for hosting the mixtape, check the site for a full interview with Hovatron. To catch more of Hov's music, check out his myspace and soundcloud accounts. Get it!
