Montreal beatsmith Ango shot out of the 2010 Red Bull Music Academy in London like a rocket launcher. After years spent playing the legendary MTL Turbo Crunk parties alongside Lunice and Megasoid, Ango has spent the past year linking up with Glasgow label LuckyMe and performing all over the world, including a set at Barcelona's famed Sonar Fest featuring tons of unreleased material. You can check out a recording of that seminal set, along with others from his time in London, from within the RBMA Radio archives

LOOKOUT & Red Bull Music Academy Present:
Tuesday, March 8th
LE BELMONT, 4483 St. Laurent
It's application time! In support of this years Academy, alumni Ango (Montreal) and Lunice (Montreal), both from LuckyMe Records, will be co-heading the Red Bull Music Academy Canadian Tour Destination Tokyo (co-presented by Exclaim.ca), featuring PrisonGarde (Vancouver) and Nautiluss (Toronto). Preceding each show is an intimate look at the Academy and its application process through essions hosted by mymanhenri. Attendees will also have an exclusive opportunity to enter a remix contest, with submissions hosted on Exclaim.ca, and the winner taking home a $1K gift certificate to Moog Audio. No Academy day would be complete without a proper party, which starts at 10pm right after the workshop.
Prison Garde is the latest incarnation of electronic music monolith Vaughn Robert Squire. A man of many monikers and creative outlets, with a well celebrated history that spans multiple eras and genres of music (as Megasoid, Sixtoo,Villain Accelerate and S&N to name a few projects), Prison Garde spends his nights these days pumping out deep twerked warehouse music of all tempos.
Formerly of Thunderheist, Nautiluss has refocused and reloaded his plan of attack, providing dark, diabolical tracks somewhere between house, techno, and evil space disco. The perfect soundtrack for a flight over international waters.
Lunice is just THAT dude. So cool, so easy. But at night he’s a monster making bedroom dance videos to Footcrab and Sex Intelligent (remix stoopid). It was just over a year ago that Lunice started bumping his own beats at the Turbo Crunk nights. To think that he’s since released a debut EP on LuckyMe, played two European tours, and attended the Red Bull Music Academy in London, cheeeez, dude is doing those big things already.
Joining Montreal's community of influential DJs and Producers, this R&B beat maker has just begun to do his part to help rebuild the landscape of alternative dance music in North America. Ango's music is uniquely melodic and hopeful, bringing boogie-era synth and drum sounds into context with contemporary R&B bangers, electro and bass music.
Tickets are $8 and will be available online and at the following locations:
MOOG Audio - 3828 St-Laurent
Off The Hook - 1021 Ste Catherine Ouest
Atom Heart - 364, Rue Sherbrooke Est

Time to get the party started and ignite clubgoers across Canada fifteen minutes at a time. Red Bull Thre3style is preparing for rotation around the country, one city at a time giving each DJ their fifteen minutes of fame. Hitting 10 cities across Canada, Red Bull Thre3Style will feature eight of the best local DJs throwing down their best party sets followed by a special performance from Canadian DJ legend Skratch Bastid.
While the art of the DJ continues to evolve it remains true to one objective: rock the party. Hosted by Canadian musician Curtis Santiago, Red Bull Thre3Style will gather the top DJs at each of the 10 stops with hopes of becoming the best party rocker in Canada. The challenge: deliver 15 minutes of sonic infamy that incorporates a minimum of three genres of music. The constant: the crowd. With over 10,000 people who laid down some fancy footwork with the 80 DJs performing in 2009 the ultimate live party competition for 2010 are high!
Evolution of Red Bull Thre3style
In 2010 Red Bull Thre3Style is a competition to crown the world's most versatile Party-Rock DJ . The industry’s top talent – music writers, musicians, promoters, bloggers and headlining DJ’s - will judge the DJs and evaluate each performer based on creativity, track selection, skills, stage presence, and audience response. The winner of each stop will move on to the National Final set to take place in Toronto on Saturday, March 13, 2010 as part of Canadian Music Week. The winner of the Canadian National Final will earn a trip to play at the World Final in Paris, France in December 2010 and compete against winners from 13 countries and be crowned the first Global Red Bull Thre3Style Champion.
